Huge Spoilers!!
It was Desmond, the guy who was in the hatch, we learn a lot about him in the following epi. However we are then led to believe that he blows himself up, to save everyone when Locke screws up and doesn't want to type in the numbers, just to see what will happen. But in TV guide (this month) we are told he lived, but nothing on if Locke or Mr. Eko, so I'm still worried.
