Before you sleep, think of something you want to dream of, maybe this will help, I think.

Good luck.

Consider good sleep hygiene techniques, such as arising at same time of the day, avoiding daytime naps, avoiding day time stimulation, discontinuing brain stimulating drugs, taking hot baths near bedtime, eating meals at regular times, using relaxation techniques and maintaining comfortable sleeping conditions. These are the things which you should do.

Also avoid watching TV before going to bed or while in the bed or any kind of alcohol, smoking before bed, do not exercise before bed. If you really want to exercise, do it in the late evening before dinner.

If these does not work, try behavioral modification techniques and stimulus control technique which you can learn from a psychotherapist.

If a problem persists, consider drugs like benzodiazepines for a short period of time and they will be available only with prescription. They are not over-the-counter drugs.

I think this may work for you if you really put an effort because you said you don't want to take sleeping pills and I totally agree with you because they are harmful in long run.

I know what you mean, i had the same problem until i
followed some of these tips:

* do not nap during the day
* limit caffeine especially hours before bedtime
* don't smoke--nicotine is a stimulant
* don't exercise before going to bed
* don't eat a large heavy meal before bedtime

Bedtime snacks can help. An amino acid called tryptophan, found in milk, turkey, and peanuts, helps the brain produce serotonin, a chemical that helps you relax. Try drinking warm milk or eat a slice of toast with peanut butter or a bowl of cereal before bedtime.

All you need is a Nikken sleep system. A kenko pad to lay on, a comforter and a pillow. They combine far infra red technology, magnetic technology and are incredibly amazing. Everyone I know that has this has improved their quality of life dramatically. You can have a few hours sleep and feel like you have slept all night and wake up feeling completely energised. You just wont believe it until you try it. Incredible.

Good luck.

Well, turn off the computer, tv, radio, etc. Turn your phone off and avoid all disruptions. Then erase everything in your mind, and don't thnk about anything. If you start to do this you can jot down a note on a piece of paper and go back to it in the morning. Blank everything out and close your eyes. You're much less likely to fall asleep with distractions around you.

Drinking milk & eating bananas are said to work.

I don't know the results from drinking milk & eating bananas.

I normally take one of my sleeping pills. The draw back on the ones I take. I am sluggish for 2 days afterwards.

Exersize about an hr and a half before you want to fall asleep. At first youll be really awake, but then you'll tire yourself out.
