Like Roman Polanski's older work, especially Knife in the Water and Chinatown. The pianist was good, but Oliver Twist had nothing to talk about. And yes his life story is very sad.

KUBRICK!!KUBRICK!!KUBRICK!!KUBRICK!!KUBRICK!!KUBRICK!!
My vote would go for Kubrick any day. Because all his films (have seen most of them except the first few) are masterpieces in their own right and each one is so different from the other. Love each one of them very much. And I could watch them over and over.
Paths of Glory (1957)
Lolita (1962)
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
The Shining (1980)
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Kubrick. Dr. Strangelove...., Lolita, A Clockwork Orange. Powerful and thought-provoking film experiences. His films create worlds which I was unfamiliar with until seeing them through his eyes. I don't like all of his work, but those mentioned are classics.
