Everytime I turn the computer on I have to update the driver on one of my USB ports in order to get it to work. This is an ongoing process that occurs nearly everytime and although is simple enough to put right, keeps on happening. Any ideas how to resolve this permanently without throwing the computer out the window?

There are a couple of ways you can try to resolve this.

1. go to your msconfig and make sure the box is checked next to "Universal Plug n Play Device". To do this, click start then run, type in the box msconfig then click ok. Click on the "services" tab then scroll down to UPnP and make sure the box is checked. Click apply, then ok. You will need to restart your computer after doing this. When your computer comes back up, a dialog box will appear. Check the box and click ok.

2. Go to your list of services running and make sure the two services called "Windows Management Instrumentation" and "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" is not disabled. In fact, I have my WMI set to "Automatically" and "started" and my UPnPDH set to "manually".

If you have to update your driver on one of your USB ports to get it to work, then I sujest that you take your USB wire/connection down to PC world or where ever you bought it from, and check if the wire is faulty or if it is'nt then you might want to try running an anti virus programme or anti spyware. (Not Norton because thats not very good) if that doesn't work take your computer to your nearest computer shop and either get it updated a version and or Pentium Porecessor Higher, or see if the can replace you USB port.
