What are the reasons behind people needing second incomes?
Is it because companies are not paying employee's what they are worth?
Is it because people enter into financial comittments they can't afford?

Is it the NOW culture?

When people look for second incomes - do they look for EASY money?

Quite simply, we are a generation who simply want more and we want it now, regardless to weather or not we can afford it. Companies offer everything on credit and we don't think about the consequence or the extortionate re-payments and we buy or borrow on impulse. We then have to have a second income to make the repayments for our fancy cars, houses or exotic holidays. There was once a time when people had to save all year for that special holiday (to Skegness) apparently!!!

I am sure it varies hugely. Some people might need a second job to pay off debts, which could be seen as a result of the NOW culture in some cases. However, they could just be trying to save up so that they can make their family's life more comfortable or because they suddenly have to support an elderly relative or some such. Don't presume that the reasons are negative. Also, I imagine if someone looks for a second income they don't deliberately look for something hard - it is hard enough doing two jobs so you would look for the easiest thing possible for you second job. I don't doubt for a minute that there are also cases where people have to do it as they don't get paid enough in their first job. It is a complicated situation, and one I hope I never find myself in!

People sometimes need to earn extra money simply because their first income is so low and the cost of living so high.
I used to have a job that only paid the minimum wage and even with over time found my finances stretched at times. If I had the time(long hours, hard work) then I would have looked for a second income.

Ummm....am I missing something here? I would have thought it is self evident. Most people aspire to have more in terms of material possessions. Very little of that comes for free. Hence more money is required. If you make enough for all your aspirations (which quite frankly has to be a minority of people), and you have tapped out all available and repayable lines of credit, then you need a second or even third income.

Employees work for the government and pay taxes for the first six months of every year.
This includes state taxes.

One begins to work for oneself beginning in July.

Because the cost of living is based on two people living together and earning, and rising all the time.

Different reasons -

They hate home & will work to avoid the family.

They are living beyond their means and need money.

They just need the money.

They don't like having spare time or a social life.

They are saving up for something big - a wedding.

And finally .......

They live to work and don't work to live!!!!!!
