It depends on your location and use of vernacular. In the States football means American Football(NFL etc), in Australia it means Aussie rules football. The rules of football were codified in England by the Football Association in 1863, and the name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The term soccer first appeared in the 1880s as a slang abbreviation of Association football, often credited to Charles Wreford-Brown.[18]

Today the sport is known by a number of names throughout the English-speaking world, the most common being football and soccer. The term used depends largely on the need to differentiate the sport from other codes of football followed in a community.

So technically speaking football and soccer are orignally English words and are referring to the same sport.

depends what 'football' you're talking about. Football as in American football or soccer football. Football can be another word for soccer. Or... Football can be a whole different game. If you want me to explain the differences between the two games, sorry, bud. I watch soccer. American football... not so much...not at all, really.

Soccer is the best!!!

Almost everything. They are two completely different games. Soccer (called football everywhere except America) is a game that involves kicking a ball into a net, while American football is a game that works on field position. A team runs and passes a ball trying to get into the endzone to score points. That is the most simple answer I can give.

They are both the same sport. In the United States, "soccer" is the term coined for the sport that in Europe and everywhere else in the world, is called "football". Th reason for this is because in the States, we have a different sport that we call football (the one where people tackle and throw a ball).

some countries call footbal (soccer).... Soccer in the U.S. at least is where you take a black and white checkered ball and kick around, use your knees and/or head to keep the ball going and score points by getting it into the by the other teams goalie and into a net. Footbal is or of a tackle sport with a pigskin ball shapped kind of like an almond... your also trying to score points by getting yards, distance with the ball and catch it without having the other team restle it away... for this game normally men/woman will dress up in protective gear, shoulder pads and a helmet to protect from physical damage possible of repeat tackles, flips, head butts etc... hope this helps
