Make damn sure you wear the right clothes.
They have strange secret rules about what cool people should wear.

Italy is a great place to visit and/or live, but it is expensive. All italian cities are beautiful, historic and relaxing (that's is after the first impression of the italian drivers). My favorite place is San Gimigliano, a medival city in Tuscany region.
The regions are also unique; north-west areas tend to be more french, north areas swiss/german and north-east slavic.
tuscany is the real Italy, Rome is decadent, Naples is filthy and somewhat corrupt. South tends to have greek and albanian influence and Sicily more arab or levantine

I went there quite recently, didn't actually stay in a city but did make a few city trips. Pisa, Sienna and Florence are all very nice.
