pregnancy is counted in lunar months not calendar months. a lunar month has 28 days or about 4 weeks, since a normal pregnancy lasts about 40-42 weeks it is said that the term is of 10 months meaning 10 lunar months, but in terms of calendar months that would be about 9 months. got it?

The pregnancy goes for 9 FULL months.
Which is 40 weeks.
There are 4 weeks in a month divided by 40= 10 months
You go up to the 10th month--just not acually past that.

9 months. Pregnancy is calculated from the first day of the last period until 40 weeks later. However, conception doesn't actaull take place until 2 weeks after the first day of the last period. meaning that in fact, in text book cases, she is pregnant for 38 weeks, which is 9 months (6 months with 4 weeks, 3 months with 5 weeks ish)

It does seem like 10 months. That is because each months is longer then 28 days. when i was pregnant i never went by months. I went by weeks. I new at 20 weeks i was half way through my pregnancy. To answer you it is only 9 months.

The actual length varies, but the average term is 9 months.

There are cases of premature birth, and then the rare longer terms, such as Dr. August, who gave birth to a baby boy in 1999, after a pregnancy lasting 17 months 11 days.

Okay, it is counted in weeks. 40, which is about 10 months. The first month doesnt count because mose women dont even know yet. It is usually 37-40 is considered normal. Whoever said 10 months on the first kid is sadly mistaken. My first time I only got to 31 weeks. But I had twins, so that doesnt really count, and Im having my 3rd set in October.

It's 40 weeks. most people consider 4 weeks=1 month. Actually there's almost 4 1/2 weeks to a month So it's only nine calendar months.
