Mel Gibson is not a real Catholic.
He is a member of a break away independent traditionalist 'Catholic' Church which does not recognize the Pope and some of the teachings of the Catholic Church including those about Jews and Judaism.
The Catholic Church officially teaches about Judaism:
When she delves into her own mystery, the Church, the People of God in the New Covenant, discovers her link with the Jewish People, "the first to hear the Word of God.
The Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God's revelation in the Old Covenant.
To the Jews "belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ"; "for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable."
Neither all Jews indiscriminately at that time, nor Jews today, can be charged with the crimes committed during the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Jews should not be spoken of as rejected or accursed as if this followed from Holy Scripture.
With love in Christ.

See, as usual, people are not getting the entire story. The man made a movie about Christ and was withstood by the Jewish powers dominating Hollywood. The man lived under extreme stress because he made a movie about Christ. Why? Cause Jews hate Christianity. See, the bigotry started there, with Jewish hatred. Who are they to try and stop or pressure Mel for making a movie about Christ? They did just that. It was they who started the stress on his life. That stress was building up and hurting his career in a city dominated by Jews. When he got drunk, all of that stress just poured on out.
How does Hollywood become dominated by Jews? Who gets a movie? Who gets a promo? Who gets advanced? Why so many Jewish actors getting jobs? Are Jews promoting Jews, to the hurt of other non-Jews? Why am I anti-Semitic for pointing out bigotry?
Mel was not an anti-Semite. If he is now, surely, it's the Jews doing. How is a man supposed to respond to pressure like that? Except to hate them. (and still Mel doesn't hate them) And again, why do Jewish people have such a dominating stronghold over all the media and so many other areas of our lives?

It's Mel Gibson that is the bad apple, not the religion of Catholism. He is one personality that feels he is divine and god-like. His actions in every day life don't seem to be kind or charitable. Will he and other famous people ever be found accountable for their actions? Somehow I doubt it.

I just think Mel gibson thinks this way. He acted like an ***....I did not group him together with other Catholics because of his individual behavior. I won't be watching his movies; that's for sure.

Mel was raised an Aussie...Aussie's don't take much literally & will bag the s hit out of everyone & everything, doesn't mean we won't stand side by side & fight when we have to, just ask the Kiwi's, they hate us too. He was also drunk at the time & drunks never make much sense. Storm in a tea cup if ya ask me.

I'm Jewish, and without a doubt I believed he meant what he said. Drunks tend to be the most honest people. He may not have wanted to say it, but he meant it. An apology does not mean anything if he still hates an entire religion. I also heard his dad was antisemetic, and unfortunately that belief is hard to be broken when you are brought up with it.

He deserves as much of a chance as Robert Downey Jr, Betty Ford, Kitty Dukakis, Winona Ryder, Keith Richards or Kate Moss have been given...

All the things he said during this incident were his personal views. I think he did not intend on voicing out his concerns, it's just that the alcohol made him brave enough to tell the whole world how he really felt.
