I have a VERY bad habit of going to bed late. I can pull an all nighter and that night not even be tired. I could stay up to 5 A.M. after an all nighter. It's awful for my health too. What do I do?

It funny. When I pull all nighters, I am tired in the morning. As the day moves on, I am so active and not tired. It is almost as though I drank starbucks.

We have alot in common then cause I do the same. You are an insomniac and should see a doctor about this. If you can not afford a doctor try some over the counter unisom which knocks me out if I take 2 (even tho it says take one) and biting into them before i swallow so they will work faster, but do not make that a habit cause that could become bad for your health. I can also suggest something else, but hope you dont get offended. That would be smoking some good weed....it will wear you down and tire you and put you right to sleep. Try to do some excersizes to wear you out...or workout. If these things do not work i would definitely see a doctor which you should do anyway.

Okay, I'm gonna ask mother-type questions here, because I'm a mom and that's what I do. Do you get lots of exercise throughout the day? I don't mean just going to school, work or out to get the mail. I mean several hours of fresh air, a basketball game with your homies, riding your bike, or skateboarding...you know...physical stuff. Even if you don't have to get up in the morning, set your alarm for 7 am & get up. Go for a brisk walk, then come home and eat breakfast. Put activity in your day. Then, go to bed at 10 pm (earlier if you've actually become tired). You see, I'm one of those insomniacs you speak of and I know what works. If you really want to get bored, pop in an old, old movie...like something from the 40's. That's good for heavy eye lids. My daughter is also in the insomniac club. She got herself a third shift job, so that she's not awake all night. She only gets about 4-6 hours of sleep per day, and is just fine with it. She has two jobs, plus goes to college in the fall. Putting yourself on a schedule will help you see where you need to get more or less of something in your life. And schedule your sleep time in there too. One thing that always worked for me was to take a book to bed with me, and read till my eyes were like sandpaper. Then, I was ready to turn the light off. Unfortunately, if it was a particularly good book, I'd read the whole thing and not go to sleep at all! Sometimes I spend hours on this site, helping others with their problems, and it helps me with mine (my brain keeps going when my body says quit!). So, give it a try, with the activities and the schedule. It just might be that you need a third shift job, then you wouldn't have to worry about sleeping at night. Of course, you might have to deal with the sun coming into your bedroom during sleep time, but let's kill one problem first, before tackling another one. <*)))><

Talk to your doctor he or she can prescribe a natural and mild sleep aid for you. But until then I think you need to place yourself on a schedule and sooner or later your body will start to adjust. Slack down on the T.V. at night and just read a book, play music, or here is a real good one work out. Buy some work out DVDs and just tone up in no time you'll become so worn out all you would want is a hot milk and honey bath(if you're a woman) or just a hot bath and a nice warm comfortable bed. Also try keeping the air temperature comfortable too that could help.

Get into a routine. Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning. Before bed, have a bath or shower, and read for half and hour before turning the light out.
You have to get into a routine like you put a baby into a routine then your body will think, bed, read sleep.
If you can't sleep get up and do something boring like clean the kitchen cupboards. It will work but you must keep trying

Sounds like you'd be a good night time worker. Some people are just on different schedules, like me. Working nights is one thing, but if you are up for no reason and want to get to sleep you need to force yourself to sleep at night. Get off the computer! That's not helping. You have to shut your mind off to everything around you, lights, sounds, etc..

If it really goes on, consult with a doctor. But don't take medicine for sleep, you may get used to it. There are other ways of getting normal sleep, like having a glass of warm water with a table spoon of honey before you go to bed, etc. It also depends on how old you are. If you're 80, it's a normal thing :)

Try start eating right and winding down by reading a book in bed. I ise to work in a bar and i never got home before 2ish. The one thing i couldn't stay up to do is read. Dont keep the tv on because it can stimulate your mind.

Sounds kinda like insomnia. I'd go have a chat with your doctor and see what he/she recommends.
