oh man, I had this printer stolen in shipment 4 years ago. Two years of excellent service, and I thoroughly loved it. The 640C I have now is a POS compared to the older 840C.

You can always go into printer preferences and reduce the print quality and tell it to print grayscale.

Call HP customer service and get rid of it. HP offers a trade up program. For a small fee they will take back your crapper and send you a better crapper a newer model crapper. I've used the trade-in program and it's a very nice thing. Look in your user manual for the website or customer service phone number. Be patient, the people at HP speak Pak-English, but they are very helpful and spiritual people

Print in draft mode. The quality isn't as good but it is much faster and uses less ink.

it's only rated for 8ppm black and white and 5ppm for color....that's it......
if you want to print any faster you'll have to get a new printer

P.S. ppm=pages per minute

ADD OIL TO LUBRICATE !!
YOU MAY ALSO TRY CRANKING IT UP BY HAND BY PULLING PAPER FASTER BY HAND SO THAT IT PRINTS FASTER !!!
