G'day,

The best way to transfer your files will be to follow what the first guy told you.

Unfortunately you did not mention what operating system you have in your old PC. I am assuming that you are using Windows 98.

1. After connecting your old PC Hard Disk (HDD) as a slave to your new PC, boot-up your PC and you will see it as another HDD listed when you open My Computer
2. Find 'My Documents' in the other HDD. Highlight all files in there and copy it across to the new HDD.
3. Find 'Favorites', which has the bookmark from your Internet Explorer. Copy everything into c:\documents and settings\(your login name)\favorites.
4. Your e-mails. If you are using MS Outlook, then use search function to find the *.pst file, copy it into your new PC and then import it into your new MS Outlook using File-Export Import.
If you are using Outlook Express, go to this link to successfully backup and restore your e-mail. www.freebits.co.uk/backoutlook.html
5. You may also want to run search function to search for *.doc, *.xls and *.jpg, to see if you have any other files or photos spread throughout the old HDD.

Once you are confident that you have moved all the files you need, put the old HDD back to the old PC and format the old HDD to easily remove the files from the old PC. Just make sure that you have the operating system installation CD handy before doing that. Because without the CD, your daughter will not be able to use the PC.

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

There are 2 ways really
1. Buy a laplink cable (about 10 quid in UK), instal the software onto both computers, plug the cable between them (usb ends) and then transfer your files through the cable.

2. Use an external usb hard drive or memory stick (depending on the size of your files), copy your files to that, unplug it from the old one, plug into the new one and copy them to the new one.

Good luck

take out the old harddrive and install it as a slave drive in your new computer. Copy important things over to the new harddrive and enjoy!
