He has his strengths and weaknesses like everyone else. He did some positive things for Cuba like improvements in education and healthcare, and some negative things like human rights abuses. Cuba's main problem has been the US blockade, not Castro.

Fidel Castro was an ally of the Soviet Union when it existed. Have you ever heard of the Cuban Missle Crisis? The Soviet Union was going to place nuclear missles in Cuba. When the US realized what the Soviet's were doing, we formed a blockade around Cuba to prevent anything going in or out. We came very close to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. But the Soviet's agreed not to put missles in Cuba if we agreed not to invade it. I'm sure the agreement still stands today.

I don't think Castro is necessarily evil. He's just an itch that we can't scratch.

Not too much anymore, but he was a dictator in Cuba. He was working closely with Russia, who was the enemy of USA. Cuba has calmed down over the past 30 years.
