Paris, which is where I live. I must admit that although I have visited the others I have not actually lived in them.
Paris is very easy and cheap to get around, there are lots and lots of things to see and do, no matter what your interests are. The climate is pleasant for more of the year than Madrid, and generally slightly warmer than London or Brussels. Food and cafe culture are fantastic.

If A... comes from Amsterdam, then I would choose to live there. Amsterdam is really such a nice city, the greatest european capital I've seen...It is a beautifull city, with plenty of great places you can visit, museums for art lovers, the Red Light District and freedom of "smoking" and beautiful people (and here I mean beautifull inside, they smile often, kind people, they all speak english also, and beautifull outside, goodlooking).
London and Paris are nice too, but people there are strange, believeing they are the best makes them undesiderable for other nations...
Madrid is also a beautifull city, sometimes not so clean as a capital should be...
And Brussels too political for me, with many thieves from around the world...

London! Very few European cities actually manage to become a true mixed culture metropolis! Paris is stunningly beautiful, Madrid is gorgeous and sunny, Brussels is very political, Amsterdam is a very cool city but boundaries blur between the seedy side and normal side ( try following the town issues tourists map if you doubt this! )
So if I had to choose it would be London and with the price of airfare getting cheaper you can hop on a plane at Stanstead Airport and visit the others!

London. The culture, food and people from all those other cities can be found in London.

Definitely not London. It is an absolute dump. Dirty, smelly, trampy and the most unfriendly people in Europe. I'm not sure if they're deliberately rude or if it's just the general cockney demeanour.

Of those places I would choose Paris, but Glasgow is a favourite of mine for the shopping and history.

Hello Scot! Are you Scottish? Why didn't you finish your list?
If A is Athens, then this would be my choice!
Otherwise: Madrid!
