Hezbollah, a group from Lebanon, took some Israeli soldiers hostage. Israel used that as an excuse to invade Lebanon, because Israel has bad relations with Hezbollah and wants to stop more kidnappings. The invasion has killed a lot of civilians, so the U.S. has told Israel not to be so tough on Lebanon. But really, the U.S. hopes Israel defeats Hezbollah.

Israel has an army that's probably the best in the region, so countries usually leave it alone. Israel has bad relations with many countries in the area, so it must be careful when it invades one country. It may make the other countries angrier.

It's complicated. The U.S. usually supports Israel, because Israel keeps other countries in the area from uniting. If other countries in the area unite, the other countries could become very powerful and increase oil prices.

hezbollah, which is a terrorist group situated in, and controlling most of, southern Lebanon, kidnapped 2 israeli soldiers.

israel responded by bombing the cr@p out of Lebanon. Hezbollah responded by launching hundreds of rockets into various cities in northern israel.

Basically, Israel is now trying to eradicate Hezbollah, but is having trouble doing so because Hezbollah is hiding its arms and equipment in and amongst civilians. So to get at the Hezbollah fighters and their arms, Israel is ending up bombing lots of Lebanese civilians. Which isn't the greatest thing to be doing.

So, it's just a big ol' mess over there. What's new?

Lebanon and Israel are neighbouring countries, living in tension.Hezbollah is a militant group, which has vowed to fight against the Jews and Israel. Israel says that two of its soldiers have been kidnapped by this terrorist group. Israel has been following a consistent policy in dealing with terrorism. Pay the terrorists in their own coins. Now that you don't return our soldiers, we bombard your town and face the music. The Hezbollah are unrelented and refuse to hand over the Israel soldiers and continue to attack Israel with missiles. That is what is going on in Lebanon, as far as I know.

Well since Hezbollah has been voted in as the governing party it has been tense. They had kidnapped three Israeli soldiers and they are presumed to be dead so Israel is retaliating for the kidnapping.
