Cut and paste the suspected qoute into google with qoutes around it. If it's out there exactly it will find it. You better off using small distinct phrases because the forger might change word or two. Good luck and happy hunting!

Like what Lizzie D said, you should have a fair idea of what that person is capable of writing. My teacher once put it this way: "If you're using silver-dollar words in your paper and I know you're not a silver-dollar person, I'm taking a second look at your paper". Also, turnitin.com is good like the other guy said. If all else fails, just type in what you suspect is a copy and paste job on google.com or yahoo.com search. I had teachers that did that before turninin.com made it's debut.

Copy and paste sections of what they wrote onto the internet and if they did copy it some or all of what they stole should show up.

If you are familiar with someone's writing and diction it would be easy to tell. If his or her writing is too "good" or sounds too scholarly and it's not usually like that, there is a good chance that he or she c&p'd. There was actually a kid in one of my classes that took it a step further and photocopied an entry from an encyclopedia. "See Volume II for 'The Battle of Concord'."

You kind of have to know the person, and if the answer doesn't sound like something he/she would say then you can be suspicious, but other than that there really is no sure-fire way of knowing buddy.

what difference does it make?

If someone took the time to actually look up a correct answer because the person who asked the question was too lazy to do it themselves...kudos for them.

If they have a long answer that is really wordy, in a way that someone would not normally communicate.
