Venus is the hottest because of it's greenhouse atmosphere. Mercury lacks an atmosphere (or has a trace atmosphere), so it doesn't get as hot. The other planets are further from the sun, so they don't get as hot. Here's a list of temperatures from Wikipedia:

Planetary Surface Temperatures (Inner planets only)

Mercury:
Min = 90 K
Mean = 440 K
Max = 700 K

Venus:
Min = 228 K
Mean = 737 K
Max = 773 K

Earth:
Min = 185 K
Mean = 287 K
Max = 331 K

Mars:
Min = 133 K
Mean = 210 K
Max = 293 K

Mercury is the innermost planet in our solar system, orbiting the Sun once every 88 days. Surface temperatures on Mercury range from about 90 to 700 K, with the subsolar point being the hottest and the bottoms of craters near the poles being the coldest.

Surface temp. min mean max
90 K 440 K 700 K

The hottest planet is Venus. Its surface temperature can reach 900-degrees Fahrenheit. Mercury is a close second--up to 800-degrees Fahrenheit--but only where sunlight strikes its surface.

Venus. Even though mercury is the closest to the sun, Venus's carbon dioxide atmosphere causes it's temperature to stay at around 450 degrees celcius, compared to Mercury, which can go up to a bit over 400 degrees celcius during the day, but fall to -150 degrees at night.

Planet Sexula. At least, it's the hottest planet according to the back of this video cassette box.

Definitely Venus, with a surface temperature of roughly 500C. Mercury is closer to the Sun, but has no atmosphere. It only reaches about 400C. At night, Mercury gets very cold, but Venus remains hot all over, all the time due to the dense atmosphere. It has about 90 atmospheres of pressure at the surface.

Hot as in temperature, Venus, not Mercury. That's because of Venus's greenhouse effect.
Hot as in sexy, then I have to agree with planet Sexula.

most people would think mercury, but the real answer is venus. Mercury is the closest to the sun, but venus has hot gasses that give venus it's unbelievibly hot tempature. Mercury is 377F Venus is 476F
