I believe castor oil is primarily used to help with going to the bathroom #2 in other words. I was 42 weeks and was dilated to 3cm, but the thing that put me into labor was sex. If you are comfortable having sex it is going to be your best bet to get the contractions going and further dilate your cervix. All of the walking up stairs and washing floors is all a myth. Sex would be safer for you and your baby than for you to take the castor oil. My obgyn told me that sex was the most efficient in getting the process along quicker. It dont work the first time all of the time so try more than a couple of times, and try to take a warmer bath than usual. good luck and hope everything goes well getting your new bundle of joy into the world. Mine is the best present ever

the last month is always the longest month of pregnancy isnt it? I would suggest holding off on taking the castor oil and try other methods such as walking or, if your comfortable enough to, have sex. that can help speed up the process. some drs overestimate due dates as well. i have had 3 children and all 3 have been born almost a month after my due date because the drs didnt have it right. (even going by the due date on the sonograms wasnt correct) i had to be induced with my 2 sons and my daughter came on her own, 2hrs before i was scheduled to be induced with her....lol. im getting off the subject here, with my first son, i was induced and he was not ready to come out and his intestines were not fully developed and he was very very fussy....my second child was induced before he was ready and he has developmental problems (he is about to turn 5). the body knows what to do and when to do it. i would relax, and let nature take its course. i know its exciting and uncomfortable at the same time, but one thing to remember..( a little joke people used to tell me when i was in my last month) is that they are alot more quiet when they are still in there..lol.

Actually NO castor oil will not work...done my research and read up on it myself. It just gives you a really bad tummy ache that makes you think you are in labor when really you have to use the bathroom and that is not good for you or baby.

If you want to be induced...talk to your OB doctor and let them do their work which is more safer than taking some castor oil.

Good luck. I went to 42 weeks. And that was with eating spicy food every time I turned around. And at that point I was induced. By the size of my baby I can tell you that it had nothing to do with the expected due date. That all seemed in order. I hope you go in soon, as I know it can be very tough that last overdue period! Best! Kim

I took it when I was pregnant, almost was sick in the process cause it tastes awful!!!!, but it worked for me. I was in the bathroom every 10 minutes! I was in labor for a week, contractions every 5 min (that the doctor swore would begin to pick up and move things along and it never did!) and I could hardly sleep. I tried EVERYTHING else, the walking, cleaning, a glass of red wine...I even did jumping jacks! Be well aware of your contractions and even though its not highly recommended, there is no chemical risk to you or your baby.

I never understood why women want to mess with the birthing process. You are 40 weeks. It will happen on its own at any time. If not your doctor will help it along. good luck and congratulations.
