it actually is a bit of a deal, and i'll tell you why: anyone who has to read for a living, or people who actually enjoy reading, has developed a sense of visual flow with respect to text (incidentally, people who read large qauntities of material tend to be extremely knowledgeable- the ideal demographic for someone who wants answers to questions). So shorthand disrupts this flow, making it the text equivalent of slurring, mumbling, and stuttering. The mispellings- when someone wants an answer to something, it is assumed that the person cares enough about the topic to at least use correct spelling, if not even AT LEAST do an initial google. Spellcheck? Only if you want to, but remember-people unavoidably make subtle judgments all the time. How one speaks and writes often act as cues as to the person's intelligence and skill.

Grammar is a big deal when expressing yourself. It speaks volumes about yourself with nobody ever seeing you. We know who is educated and who doesn't value learning. It's not that people who don't spell are stupid; it's that they don't care enough to take a moment to have pride in their work. I don't personally care if people use proper grammar or not, as your question doesn't change if it isn't spelled or written correctly. And I'm on here to answer questions, not be the "grammar police."

Some people think it makes you look stupid or uneducated. No it's not a big deal on here. It will be a big deal when you're trying to get into the job market.
