He's a celebrity with a chip on his shoulder. And as much as I think what he said and did is horrible...I do give him some amount of credit for his apology and for acknowledging that, as a public figure, he should be held accountable for it. He said himself there should be no leeway of tolerance for what he said. Most celebrities lie or tell us that they shouldn't be held any more accountable than anyone else. When they chose to live in the public eye, the took that responsiblity. At least he admits that.
I have to wonder just how much of his father's influence was coming out. (His father is an anti-semite that believes the halocaust was fiction) Who knows what demons are in his mind...no matter how much a person consciously wants to change and be different from their parents, those beliefs that were drilled into you as a child can still linger under the surface and appear when you're not in total control of your thoughts.
The man clearly needs help...

Mel Gibson is an individual. He made the news.If he really said what they said he did then he made a lot of people think-both Christians and Jews. was he really busted? I don't think this was a publicity stunt.

Oh give the poor dude a break!He had a bad night, loaded up on the booze, and expressed his right to free speach! He's still totally hot and a great and brilliant director! Why dosent anyone make a huge deal when other churches make fun of Catholics? It goes both ways, my friend!!!

He is an alcoholic and has been on a dry drunk for a long time. Because he never got honest with himself and others about his anti-semitism he failed to stay sober. Might have to check out AA or Al-Anon to understand my answer but that is what went wrong...
