Because they are shallow , selfish unrealistic unhappy jerks who think nothing of themselves or care about noone. They only have an image of themselves that is held on their own pedestal.

Actually, it seems like we're a lot more superficial than we'd like to believe -- physical attractiveness and money are "sexy" --both imply power, to some degree, and status to a greater degree. Just so you keep things in perspective, though -- look at various couples when you're at a public place -- you'll find most people are seemingly "average", and I bet if we'd get to know them, they'd be worth their weight in gold.

If you go to a pet store would you pick the ugliest dog ???
If you go looking for a home (money no object) would you look for a slum to live in ???

let's face it. when we meet people, we are attracted to their looks and money first. the attitude and great personality were often neglected, sad to say. and then later on, we will find out that the good-looking guys or girls were not the type we are really looking for.. that's human nature. we see the looks and money before the personality and attitude.

because, people let magazines and movies corrupt their brains, they are fooled into believing the only people worth their time, are those who have hit the genetic lottery, and have a lot of money.
