I don't go there, but I'm in the middle of a college search myself (proabably going into the humanities or social sciences though) so I can give you some idea of what they're looking for.

Johns Hopkins is a pretty selective school - as of 2005, they were only accepting 30% of their applicants, and most colleges are accepting a smaller percentage of students each year. So, like at any other school, you're going to have to try to make yourself stand out. Here's what they'll be looking for:

-Good grades in challenging courses. Obviously, if you're going into your senior year, it's a little late to do much about this. However, make sure your senior year course schedule is impressive - take as many APs or honors classes as you can in academic subjects, and really try your best. Since you're applying to a science-oriented school, your math/science grades will probably be the most important.

-High test scores. If you haven't already gotten a really good score on your SAT Reasoning Test (say 2100 or up), now's your chance to get hold of some prep books and study before the next sittings in October/November. Again, your math score is going to be especially important. You also want to make sure you have at least two or three SAT Subject Tests that you're happy with - chemistry for sure, any other math/science you're strong in, and a language, history, or English test as well for variety.

-Good recommendations. These are really important. Make sure you have at least two teachers (at least one science teacher, if possible) who will be willing to write you a glowing recommendation.

-Interesting extra-curriculars. What are your hobbies? Your talents? Do you do community service, hold a job, volunteer, play sports or an instrument, or participate in clubs? Get a list together now so you won't have to scramble next fall.

-Great essay. This one gets overlooked a lot, but it's the part of your application over which you have the most control, and it can swing you either way. Start early, be original, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Good luck!
