I was 2 cm dialated for about 2 weeks...my baby wound up being a week over due...A normal pregnancy lasts 40 weeks so lets hope the baby waits out...like i said my baby was a week late and i didn't have to be induced...the pains are normal, you probably have false labor pains...

Actually, you can be dilated without being in labor, so whoever told you differently was very wrong. I was dilated 4-5 cm and 100% effaced for two weeks before my second child was born.

Now, if the pain is bad, you can go in to the hospital, or call your doctor. But they will ask you questions about your pain, the timing of it, etc. So get ready to answer those questions first.

Does the pain let up at times and then come back? Time how long it lets up for, and then how long it comes for. These are contractions. Whether they will go anywhere or not, well, that's up for grabs. I had pain that was really pretty intense sometimes with my second and third children without it really kicking in to true labor. You have to wait until the contractions are regular (they like you to wait until they are 5 minutes apart) before you go in to the hospital, normally. Exceptions are if you have bleeding, in which case you should go immediately in to the hospital, if you get a high fever, or if you can't feel the baby move for more than a couple of hours.

The doctors are unlikely to induce you at 37 weeks. They will only do that if your water breaks. And most women don't have their water break until they are totally in labor, so don't worry about that so much.

Bottom line: hold tight, relax as much as you can, keep an eye on the clock, and when you have something concrete to report, call your doctor or the hospital and see what they say.

And good luck!! May you have a great delivery experience!

If I were you I would go take a shower and wait for the pains to be five minutes apart and then go to the hospital. Any time sooner they could send you back home and tell you to wait until they are five minutes apart and then come back. No reason to make two trips not to mention it usually is very uncomfortable driving around in the car. Congradulations sounds like you will be a mommy in the next few hours. Good luck and remember to relax. DOnt tighten up when you feel the pains since that only makes them worse. Once again congradulations you should be holding your baby by the morning well morning my time which is pacific. .ONe last thing sometimes the doctor has to break the water so dont try and wait for your water to break.

The pain may be your pelvic bone seperating making more room for your baby to come out. I had alot of that pain while pregnant myself. If the period cramp like feeling starts getting worse alot more painful try to see if you can time the cramps if you can time them call your obgyn or doctor they will tell you to go to the hospital or not. Dont be alarmed if your water hasnt broken yet because not all womens water breaks right away sometimes they have to do it for you which doesnt hurt at all. If you feel the pain is to much who cares dont wait for your doctor get yourself to the hospital its better to be safe than sorry especially when it puts your babys health in jeporday.

contractions will come about 10- 15 minutes apart and go from belly to your back or vise versa , they are not just in one spot like when your on your cycle . several days or more before you actually go into labor you will see a bloody discharge called bloody show . sometimes this happens just before you go into labor . it is alos called losing your plug or mucus plug. if you see blood go to the hospital ASAP just to make sure your placenta is not detaching from your uterine wall .
i would wait for one of the tell tell signs you are about to deliver , regular contractions that dont go away with walking or changing position , water breaking [ this can be a trickle or a gush ] , or bloody show .
you can stay dialated for quite some time . it doesnt always mean labor is days away [ unfortuately !] it can be discouraging finding out you are dialated , but nothing is happening .
good luck and best wishes

The hospital will send you home if you aren't more than 2 cm dialated. If you don't see water or blood, hang in there until you go into real labor.

I have had four babies, and during all of my pregnancies I was dilated to 4 centimeters for weeks, and was not in labor. My water never broke until the doctor ruptured the membrane. All of my children were born before the 38th week. They can induce you simply by breaking your bag of water. That's all it took for mine.

just because you're having pain doesn't mean you're in labor. Wait for consistent contractions, or until your water breaks. Until then, there's no reason to go to the hospital yet.

Please do not wait for your water to break to call the DR. it could be too late my baby was born about 10mins after my water broke. you need to time your pains and call your DR. if you are ever in doubt and dont know what to do you should be checked!
