I used to have the same problem!
Try to rub alcohal (or nail polish remover) onto your nails. If you bite them, then they taste and smell horrible. Lemon juice worked for me.
Wear gloves. Just don't wear them in the summer or spring. Maybe when the fall comes you can start wearing gloves.
Don't do this at school or you'll look like an idiot. When I got back home, I would put tape over my fingers. And wear them until I need to go to school. Yeah, wear them at night, even when asleep. Some people unconciously bite their nails I think. Or if you can't sleep, you might bite your nails too.
This can also be under stress so don't listen to music when you go to bed. You can listen to instrumental but only that. Then maybe you can read and eat fruit or a decent chocolate bar. Then brushing and sleep well. Taking a hot bath or shower can also help.
Oh, and try not to put your hands on your cheeks or you might be tempted to bite them.
Good luck on your nails!

Just so you know by biting your nails you are at risk of damaging your nails so bad that they will actually stop growing, for good!!
Try painting them, if they look pretty it may discourage you from biting. If painting them yourself isn't working try having them professionally done, maybe spending the money to make them look pretty will help. Or you can always have fake ones put on(I suggest gels, they're a bit more gentle to your nail & look natural). There is also that stuff that you can paint on your nails that tastes bad so it helps you stop biting, I believe they sell it at most drug stores.
Good luck!! :)

What you could try is putting this special nail polish on your nails. My mom did it with my sister, and my sister couldn't stand the bitter taste of it so she stopped.
I used to bite my nails and it wasn't until I started to notice why I was biting them. If your biting them because of stress, then I would suggest meditating, excersizing (sp) to get rid of the extra stress that your feeling. Also look at your nails and think about everything that you've touched and how its all underneath your nails. That pretty much sealed the deal from me ever puting my dirty nails, into my clean mouth.

I've been a nail bitter all my life too, but for the most part recovered.
Have you though about positive self talk? or giving yourself a reward for not biting your nails for a week.
What do you find yourself doing or thinking about when your are biting your nails?
Do some journaling. and Listen to yourself. What other self destructive habits are you into? Do some searching.

you recognize what you should do? provide up studying, bypass out and discover a chemist (or drug shop...I dunno what they might call it on your u . s . a .), and discover a nail polish there fairly for nail biting. once you set it on, it extremely is sparkling and un-noticable. yet once you bypass to chew your nails...BAM! The style is poor. It tastes like homestead paint blended with banana. VERY DISGUSTING. you may in basic terms style it nonetheless, no longer smell it, so do no longer hardship with regard to the fragrance making you ill. That helps lots with nail biting. Use it until you provide up completly, believe me, it extremely works. it extremely is non poisonous, via the way.

Put pepper or some type of food you really hate in your nail polish. I despise peanut butter so I would water it down and put a little in my nail polish.
