I've been taking acid reflux medications, specifically proton pump inhibitors, but they haven't been working. What can I take or do differently to deal with my constant reflux? I feel like throwing-up after most meals; especially after breakfast.

Talk to your Dr. about the problem.

First of all, Nexium (esomeprazole) is basically the same as Prilosec (omeprazole). If you have tried omeprazole and it didn't work, then Nexium is NOT likely to work for you.

However, you can try the OTHER PPI's as one may work while another may not necessarily work.

The others are Protonix (pantoprazole), Aciphex (rabeprazole) or Prevacid (lansoprazole).

First things first though--you need to make sure your eating habits are good. You MUST avoid lying down within 3 hours of eating (do not eat too late). Consider elevating or adding pillows so that you don't sleep horizontally. Avoid eating spicy or acidic foods and coffee. Eat smaller meals (it may help you lose weight, if that is also a problem) so as your stomach is not so full. If you feel hungry, then you should consider smaller and more frequent meals.

There are other classes of drugs which can help you as well (H2 blockers, antacids). If you continue to have problems, you need to talk with your doctor and he/she should be able to help you out.

You mention that you feel like throwing up. If you do throw up a lot, you may need to have what is called gastroparesis, or slowed emptying of the stomach. If so, you may need a gastric emptying study done and you may need further treatment but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Top Home Remedies for Acid Reflux and Heartburn:

Our #1 Recommended Treatment is here.

Raw Potato - shredded with a grater. Eat several tablespoons of this at the onset of symptoms.

Baking Soda - A teaspoonful in a cup of water. Drink it for quick relief. Warning: Depending on the cause of your heartburn, this can actually cause more acid to be produced afterwards and the symptoms may return. The same goes for heartburn relief tablets that are also calcium supplements.

Rootbeer - Some old timers swear by a can of root beer to cure heartburn.

Cola - Served at room temperature, may help simple heartburn caused by indigestion. On the other hand, the caffeine and carbolic acid in soda may inflame more serious cases of acid reflux.

Ginger and Ginger Tea - Chewing on raw ginger, or drinking strong ginger tea with honey may help acid reflux.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey - 2 tablespoons of vinegar every morning and a couple tablespoons of honey every night. This is an old time recipe for a healthy stomach that can keep heartburn away.

Saltine Crackers or Pretzels - Eating several at the onset of symptons brings relief according to many.

Pineapple Juice - drinking this, or eating the fruit itself brings relief for some.

Papaya - in fruit or juice form may help.

Colloidal Silver - Many believe that serious acid reflux might be caused by a bacteria or virus in the stomach. Some have found that taking colloidal silver has quickly ended their heartburn pain permanently.

Yellow Mustard - A tablespoon of this when you feel the burn coming on might do the trick. Not recommended if you have ulcers though.

Chronic heartburn is usually from acid reflux - stomach acid is getting past the little valve and into your esophagus. You also should know some natural ways to treat your heartburn. Learn them here https://bitly.im/aMG4X

The most immediate thing you can do is to stop drinking coffee and cola. Smoking is not good either, but that might be harder to stop. Don't over-eat. Don't lie down too soon after eating. Don't burp too much - this carries acid up with the burp.

heartburn the most common symptom of acid reflux disease (also known as gastroespohageal reflux disease, or GERD). Heartburn feels like a burning pain in the center of the chest. Actually, it sounds to me as if you have some sort of infection, maybe a touch of e. coli. Have you been to taco bell lately? There have been some confirmed cases of that........
