A kynodesme was a thin leather strip worn by athletes in Ancient Greece to restrain the penis. It was tied tightly around the part of the foreskin that extended beyond the glans. The kynodesme could then either be attached to a waist band to expose the scrotum, or tied to the base of the penis so that the penis appeared to curl upwards.

Greek and Olympic athletes wore the Kynodesme to ensure that the glans penis would never be exposed ... something the Greeks considered highly offensive ... and just about the worst social faux pas that respectable men might do. As participants in the Greek Olympic Games always competed in the nude ... the kynodesme was considered de rigueur whenever a man or boy was exercising or competing.
