No it isn't necessary to be rude. On the other hand some people just ask questions to get that response. How can you be helpful to some stranger who wants to know how to wear their hair. I find some of the questions to be just asinine.

Hey, people are just different!
There's nothing like rude in the cyber-world (of course there IS something called gross, but you need to ignore them, they are just having fun in the anonymity that cyberspace provides). I don't think most the people you regard "rude" will come across as rude if you meet them in person... it's just may be the cyber-culture...
And, when you see an answer, you'll know whether it's useful to you, so just filter out the chaff, being here is worth it just for those few souls who genuinely want to help!

It isn't necessary for most of us but what you must consider is a few years ago there was a rash of football watching mothers who were so happy they had babies they actually spiked their child on the ground causing severe head trauma. So just attribute it to that and feel sorry for them for having been bounced by their mom. Dont let stupid people get ya down ;).

I've always tried to be helpful, not rude. I have seen many people answer very rudely though. I think those people are just very insecure and paranoid. I don't know what they are trying to prove by calling people names and telling you that you're an idiot. I guess somehow it makes them feel better. They must have very low self esteem. Trying to put other people down makes them feel better about themselves.

Occasionally reciprocating in kind is necessary.

Idiotic questions deserve nothing less than rude responses, and nothing more than pure assassination.

There are individuals who arn't asking to learn but to be rude. They are trying to make a point by asking their question. Not trying to get an answer or to learn anything.
