I concentrate on the elderly and the animals. I do errands for the elderly so they do not need to go out. I keep the birdbath filled with clean water and even add ice a few times a day, to keep the water from being boiling. It melts immediately or I wouldn't do it, for fear of hurting the birds. I have a container on the ground always filled with cool water for squirrels, rabbits and such. Can you tell us what you are doing to help those who depend on others?

I love the answers I am seeing. To answer someone...I am a 57 year old woman. To answer another..I am not bragging. I am trying to remind people that we are the lucky ones who can care for ourselves. And by the way, where I live, no one is evening walking their dogs. They go out with them for brief times and then back to where they are safe and cool. This is NOT a typical summer. Do you live in Alaska, or something?

"chic" I sometimes work 12 hour shifts at the hospital. I also visit 8 camps a week of young children, as a music specialist. I, too, am busy.

"Theresa G" I wrote you a long letter. What I failed to say was that it is not only inhumane of those people to leave a dog outside in this heat. But eith out water!!! It is probably punishable by law. If you need to speak to the police, I pray you will. Something tells me you are a good person!
Be strong and do the only thing you can...save the dog.

Well, I have cancer, and a newborn who was very sick when she was born. She had Persistant Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns. I took in my husbands Grandmother who has Dementia/ALtheimer's. I have my hands full right now, but I think your ideas are sweet. =0)

Ummm...yeah I work mon-fri 9-6; I am providing a stable market place so "you" can spend your days watering animals and helping the elderly.
No seriously....I know that sounded like a smart *** comment, but I'm glad there's ppl out there that do have enough time to help others...you make up for us that either don't take the time or really can't afford to take the time. So thanks! :)

In the summers here in Sacramento, when I go someplace I take a liter or liter and a half bottle of cold water for myself and I take extra cold water bottles for people I meet on the street. It's hell to be in 100+ weather and not be able to afford water to live on.

I got the AC CRANKT!! And the fans going full blast. Sweet Jay-sus it's hot! Yea so we give our doggies nice cool water and stay in the house where we are cool. You know, I wouldn't want to drive my car around, polluting the air and making it worse for the poor peeps who do not have AC.

Oh I agree with you. Its easy to go through the day and forget about things going on around the country. I know its so hard. I think about every one who is going through terrible times with the heat. Animals included. Its so nice to see a great question in here. Thanks so much for asking it.

By helping out w/ an EMS dept. when they call asking questions or looking for advice, I help them out. When we get called out for an elderly pt., we respond as quickly as we can and have fluids prepared to help them out.
