Completed in 1998, "Fiori di Como" is still the largest glass sculpture ever made. It is housed in the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was created by the artist Dale Chihuly.

The artpiece, which took about 10,000 pounds of steel for the armature and some 40,000 pounds (about 2,000 pieces) of hand-blown glass, covers approximately 2,000 square feet of ceiling.

As Chihuly himself has said, "Everything about the 'Fiori di Como' was new: the scale, the armature, and the glass. First I had to develop the way the ceiling would look: the depth, new glass forms, the technique for holding the glass, all the safety issues involved in suspending a 40,000 pound artwork overhead."

The artist employed a team made up by more than 100 professionals: glassblowers, architects, engineers, shippers, installers, and fabricators. It took two years to complete "Fiori di Como", which means "Flowers of Como" (Bellagio was inspired by the hotel on Lake Como in Italy).
