I remember reading about beans, peas, scallions and onions. Experiments were about their growth and orientation without gravity. Apparently light took the role of the orientation factor.

At some point there were experiments with hydroponics and with sea-weeds, which were considered as good candidates for space food in long-term space travel to Mars.

I also remember about problems with getting fertile (is it a correct word for plants?) seeds, but I don't remember which plants were involved - it was in late 70s and 80s on Soviet space stations.

Cannabis (also known as Marijuana)... they found that the astronauts felt more weightless and some reported seeing the Earth changing colors. The most disturbing results came when one astronaut claimed he saw a UFO outside the window. This is why you should pass on grass. :-p
