I USUALLY (CAREFULLY) USE A RAZOR BLADE AND GET TO SLICING AND I PULL THREADS LOOSE WITH A NEEDLE TO MAKE THEM LOOK FRINGY FASTER RATHER THAN WASHING AND DRYING OVER AND OVER. I JUST PULL THE THREADS LOOSER AND LOOSER.

The best way I have found is to buy a foot file/scrapper. Its a foot tool you probably already have or can but at any drug store. Its got a file on one side and a sharp metal heel scrapper on the other side that looks like a cheese grader. Its also has a handle. Pull your jeans tight around something (don't be wearing them !!) and run the sharp side across the jeans and a hole will appear. Its will make a mess but its a easy way to make holes.

Rub the balde of scissors or a knife flat against teh jeans in the same spot over and over and over and over and over again. it will wwear the material thin and you will get the cool stringy look.

Also can be done with a razor.

Rub them with a pumice stone or any other sharp/jagged object. You can also geta bleach pen and doodle on them or splash liquid bleach on them and let them sit for a while to get a bleach spot look.

Put them on a solid surfuce and take a really rough rock and scrap it across them for a while. If you have rough concrete any where around your house, take them and rub them across that for a while. Easy and gives you a good rugged look.

cut holes with scissors
use REALLY coarse sandpaper to fray the edges of the holes
wash and dry on med temp, or air dry.
this works even better on the edges or on hems
