I will be starting my freshman year in college in about 2 and a half weeks and I was just thinking about the books and class material that I will be needing. And I realized that I might need my books in early so that I have them right away, but I wasn't sure. There is website that works directly with my college to provide the accurate books I will be needing for each course. I just wanted to know from people who have already been in college or are still in college what they did. Should I order them in advanced or wait till I get the syllabus from my professors? I know all the websites and stuff and I know to try to get used books, I don't need that kind of information!

I disagree with what the other guy wrote, and I am a current college student (technically third year). If I were you, I would buy your books as soon as possible, so that you can avoid long lines and possible sell-outs. Just make sure that you do not take them out of the wrappers until after you have attended your first class. While many professors only review the syllabus the first day, there are a few who expect the students to be prepared to learn on the first day...better safe than sorry. When I was a freshman, no one told me this, and I assumed I should wait until after the first class, and I ended up with a professor who started lecturing, and I had no book. The worst-case scenario would be that you might return a book or two, and get your money refunded.

Find out which books you teachers wants you to get then get them. Sometimes the books that are half price in the book store are no longer the ones the teacher is using so be on the look out.
