Somehow I don't think they'd consider hot dogs and beer to be performace-enhancing substances... hell, they didn't even have Gator-Ade back then. I'd say that fat bastard was natural.

Just to let chikadee know... there's no such thing as curses, the Sox just sucked for 86 years.

Ruth did not even lift weights much less use steroids. Weight training did not become common until the 60s and the norm until the 70s. Steriods did not exist in Ruth's time. Ruth played many games hung over though and probably took some low doses of speed as this was common among the partying circles in Baseball to stay awake in a game after being up all night partying.

Ruth also probably even had more than one AB while legally too drunk to drive.

There is such hysteria about 'Roids where people have to include Babe Ruth in the accusations now?! While we're at it... I wonder if Secretariat got shot in the rear as well. It's quite all right to have a discussion about possible steroid use of athletes (even though it is getting restless), but come on now!

To answer this idiotic question: NO, Babe Ruth did not take steroids. Have you seen a picture of the tub-a-$hit?? If they did have 'roids back then, apparently it made you fat-- John Goodman played Babe Ruth in a movie... John Goodman!

No way brother. That was pure dedication and love to baseball and a lot of beers.

Baseball needs players like Albert Pujols, like Derek Jeter, like David Ortiz and a couple more that never ever had taken steroids and they are rockin'. With 20 players like this, baseball will be baseball again!!!

He was an awesome base ball player, a hero to some people, and he's dead so why bother thinking anything more negative other than his curse the red sox fans think he gave them and even that has been lifted
