A few options.. but first of all, you should try using Proactiv more often. You should use it TWICE a day (morning and night). That may be all you need.
After 3-4 weeks, if your acne doesn't improve, you can call them and ask for the "Extra Strength Kit", and see if that helps after a couple of weeks.
If that still doesn't work, you may need prescription medications because Proactiv is about the best non-prescription products for acne there is. That means, if Proactiv doesn't work, you should see a dermatologist.
A dermatologist told me that the fastest way (besides injection) to get rid of existing acne is oral antibiotics coupled with topical treatments (antibacterial or retinoid). However, oral antibiotics aren't to be taken for a long period time because it poses serious health risks. It's only a temporary quick fix. For long-term results, you should go with either regular topical treatments (gels, lotions, creams, or toners) or Accutane (a serious drug with serious side effects).

I used to have bad skin and the best thing I can suggest is going to a dermatologist. Usually your insurance will cover this and the copayment is fairly inexpensive plus a majority of medications are covered by insurance since acne is considered an infection. If that is not an option tea tree oil is a wonderful home remedy for helping clear up oily skin they have a lot of these options at The Body Shop and they work really well. Hope this helps and hang in there.

Hey,
I had bad skin too for a long time. I tried Pro Active and about everything else that is sold over the counter with no real success. However, I finally went to the dermatologist and got some prescription medication and now my skin is really clear!!! I don't even wear makeup most of the time now.
I am using minocycline, an antibiotic face cleanser and a retin A product. This may or may not be right for you... go to the doctor and see... don't wait any longer.
Best of luck.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.
The secret is never to touch the spots
Tips on how to treat acne and achieve perfect clear skin in as little as 7 days?

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Try limiting your dairy consumption.
A 2005 Harvard study found a connection:
"Acne Associated with Dairy Intake
A new Harvard study links dairy products to adolescent acne. A group of 47,000 women from the Nurses’ Health Study was asked to provide information about several aspects of their diet during high school as well as any incidence of physician-diagnosed severe teenage acne.
Researchers noted a positive association with total milk and skim milk consumption, along with instant breakfast drinks, sherbet, cottage cheese, and cream cheese.
No association was found with several other foods often thought to affect acne, including soda, french fries, chocolate candy, and pizza. The scientists postulate that hormones and bioactive ingredients found in milk may be responsible."

Here's what I do:
Wash my face with St. Ives Apricot Scrub for acne in the shower each day
Use astrigent (I use the Wal-Mart generic-it works!) before I put on my makeup
Wash my face with Dove soap when I get home
Use astrigent right afterward and right before bed
Every other day, I use a Stridex pad.
This works really well for me, doesn't dry out my skin, and the all of it costs about 12 bucks.

Hi, I don't know how expensive proactive is, but I have a friend who has been using Clear Advantage from Arbonne and has had great results. She is 30 and has tried everything out there including Drs. and this worked where nothing else has. You can find it at www.wonderful.myarbonne.com in their online catalog. Good luck to you.
