They'll be ok without a filter for that long. It's the air that you'll want to hook up as soon as you can. Now I'm really hoping that you do not have an undergravel filter; it wouldn't be much fun to install if you've already got your tank filled :)

Having read some of the answers so far I am amazed at some of them they obviously don't know what they are talking about
your koi are probably fine today
for more info on koi visit the site below
as long as your tank is big enough for the fish the you will probably be fine you will need a filter and pump for them to keep the water clean (would you like to live swimming in your own excrement) a good air pump will help
clean out the filter regularly and all should be fine

They should be fine for the night the problem with koi is they are a type of goldfish and goldfish are the direst fish you can have. They produce so much bacteria that you can't put any other kind of fish with them. I also think you should know that koi can get up to 4 feet long. They are pond fish not tank fish so if you do keep them in a tank they will probably only live a year if your lucky.

If you have tiny fish then it's OK if your tank is big enough.
The important thing is filtration NOT air . Get a filter which is too big 'cos they grow like there's no tomorrow. Also don't overstock and don't overfeed or your filter will not be big enough.
If they survive the first few weeks then your set-up is OK. Otherwise they will die quite quickly.
Dont' change all the water at once - about 1/3 - 1/2 each week but better if you have a supply of water which has been standing for a few days - not staight out of the tap.

Um, the previous poster seems to be the one who has no idea. Koi get big. Very big. 3ft seems to be the reported max size, and who has a tank big enough for a 3ft fish? Besides which, they are incredibly messy. If the OP doesn't even have a filter, I very much doubt the tank is going to be 15ft long. Do the decent thing, give them to someone with a pond.

You're already going to kill them from keeping them in the tank, might as well not have a filter in there for another night.
Edit: Thanks birdistasty. I try to help. I do. I just get so frustrated. Some times I wonder why there is a fish section at all, not like they ever listen...

Firstly, you shouldn't keep fish.
Going out and buying fish with a friend on the spur of the moment is like going and buying a new cd. You'll get bored and fed up with it.
Best bit of advice is, take the fish back, but don't have the gaul to ask for your money back.

The koi are simply ornamental crap, they will be fine, they are naturally accustom to living in mirky low oxygenated water. The will actually gulp water at the surface if the oxygen level of the water gets low.

LOL at Zoer.
You and Lynn crack me up. You really do. I love all of your answers, and I love how people argue with them. A simple google search would let them know you guys are right. But, ya know, typing into a search engine takes so much more effort than typing questions on this site and getting angry with the answers you get...
Hey, thanks for more free points! Seriously, ask more questions!
