I'm sorry, there may not be a good way around this affliction, as Foolishness seems to be a quiet predator who looks for unsuspecting prey. I suppose you could shield yourself best by keeping alert, but some are just predisposed, I'm afraid. It could be genetic. Nature or nurture...hmmm....

fool'ish·ness n. - (1) trait of never learning from mistakes and repeatedly falling into the same traps: 'Last time I stuck my finger in the light socket I was shocked, let me see if this happens again.' (2) the act of thinking narrowmindedly: 'The caveman swears the world it flat, so it must be true'. (3) Mucking up big time: 'I hate public speaking, maybe a few drinks will help me out!'

Ever heard . . ."foolish is, as foolish does?" - or, "a fool and his money, are soon parted?"

Life is a learning experience. Every 'foolish' act, that awards one with negative or undesirable consequences, hopefully indicates that one would be better served by making different choices, the next time opportunity appears.

Effective foolishness = wisdom to live without this affliction

Foolishness is doing things without considering the possible consequences; being too impulsive. I suppose the best way we can avoid that is to try to think before we act.

not doing that which a reasonable person would do.

You can avoid this affliction by simply being a reasonable person.

Someone who makes the same mistakes, believes the same lies over and over. You can avoid it by living in reality instead of trying to make things fit in to what you want them to be. Use common sense, if things don't add up they just don't and refuse to buy in to it when someone is trying to convince you they do. Believe what you see, not what you hear.

Overbuying. Lots of times you think you can't live without stuff, you buy it, takit it home and mostly never use it.
