I think more people will stand behind Mel Gibson as many people agree (right or wrong) with statements made by Mr. Gibson. Tom Cruise, in the meantime, follows Scientology which many people find weird and many do not agree with his seemingly control over Katie and their new baby. So I would have to say Tom Cruise, but he has many many fans worldwide so I would say neither man's career is toast.

I think Mel Gibson is more toast. You do not go running your mouth off about Jews, stark drunk, and expect the police people to cover your ***. People think that's ruder than pulling off a cartoon show on Comedy Central, because it delievered the "wrong message" about Scientology, being a walking freak case, marrying a woman half your age, and letting her have zero control over your child. I wish Tom Cruise would go away more than Mel Gibson, I'm tired of him. However, tom Cruise is still popular so I expect he'll stick around, even if he has to find work if he refuses Paramount's offer because of their pay cut.

I do not understand Tom Cruise and his religion that he likes to preach to pubic. Did they not have baby and are not married?
What kind of morals are these Tom? Yes both Tom and Mel are burned to crisp.

tom's is more toast than is mel's.

reason: tom is an "actor." Only now he is a nutcase. No one is going to go see films in which he is acting.

Mel, on the other hand, is doing mostly producing now. With him being behind the camera instead of in front of it, I don't think his personal troubles are going to harm him as much.
