I love long hot showers especially in the winter but I heard somewhere that hot water stretches your skin...is that true?

Hot showers dry your skin out more. It's better for your skin to shower with tepid water.

Cold water is better for the skin I heard, especially in showers. Like you I am for long hot showers.

I used to have a skin irriation from hot water and I would get red areas on my body. Not a pretty sight, but I don't get anything that severe anymore. I would use cool water, but I like warm water myself. Don't burn yourself with hot water though, you could develop irritations... as far as stretching your skin, it sounds possible but I think you have more serious worries from using hot water.. I have never heard of skin streching in hot water, but it has some sense. Probably more like exfoliating your skin too much. Oh hot water is also bad for you because steam rises from the hot water and is another factor that will especially harm you when using hot water. Just stick with warm water.

a hot shower is relaxing, but a coldwater one is, well, less damaging to your skin, because over showering with hot water kinda dries your skin out over time.

I don't know about the stretching your skin part, but it can hurt your skin by making it dry, even if you don't have dry skin. But don't make it too cold, either. Try lukewarm. If need it be, start of very warm, and gradually lower the temperature to cool but not cold.

I heard hot showers can cause wrinkles and that cold water makes your hair shinier.

I've never heard that but it can dry your skin out. I wouldnt give up the showers though, just get a really good moisterizer(sp?) and you should be fine.

First hot water, then finish with cold, or cool. This tones up your immune system somewhat.
