i have ugly marks all over my legs from me [stupidly] picking at bites and what not. they are really embarrassing and have lowered my self esteem quite a bit. i really want to get rid of them.

people have suggested cocoa butter and i was just wondering how long it takes for the cocoa butter to begin to make a difference.

also if anyone has any other solutions to get rid of the scars please let me know

thanks!

I think it is misleading when people say that cocoa butter helps scars go away. I think it is more accurate to say that over time (with regular consistent use of a quality cocoa butter product) the appearance of scars, marks, and other blemishes can be reduced.

There are a number of products available over-the-counter now which deal with "reducing the appearance" of scar tissue. Mederma is one of them. I have never used this product mostly because in my experience with scars and blemishes, I've had to deal with hyperpigmentation, which is common in those with darker skin.

The way I combat scars and unwanted marks is regular exfoliation, and sunscreen. Since I'm olive skinned, I know the sun will just make those dark marks stand out more, so I try to limit my exposure to sunlight if I have a problem area.

I have tried some of the over-the-counter fade creams, but it has been my experience that none of them really produced any consistent results without some other kind of skin care regimen in place as a prerequesite.

I see a dermatologist for micro-dermabrasion treatments when things get out of hand, or it's something that WONT go away. I also take vitamin e orally and apply it directly on my skin. I also have heard tales that some essential oils have scar removing properties, but I have never experimented with them, since, once again, the scar isn't my problem, it's the hyperpigmentation I'm more concerned with.

I think you would do well to contact a dermatologist and see if there is anything simple and easy you could do at home besides using cocoa butter. While you are in the process of getting your skin back to it's normal condition, you could try using one of the waterproof skin concealers formulated for legs and body like Dermablend or Covermark. That might help raise your self esteem while you're getting back to beauty.

Cheers, and good luck.

Homemade skin whitening products are by far the cheapest and safest solution to the brown spots which trouble you so much. Read here https://tinyurl.im/aHLUE

They are very effective and at the same nurture the skin, so that you will not only have a whiter skin, but a healthier one too.

Each and every person wants a clean and radiant skin. Some spend fortunes on cosmetic products that will lighten the skin and remove all the imperfections, others spend their money on esthetic operations in the hope that their skin will look perfect. Lastly, there are people trying to fake a healthy skin by using all kinds of makeup that will cover the imperfections and leave the impression that the skin is healthy and has no scars, wrinkles or spots.

All these people are looking for a way through which they can make their skin look good. Yet, what they have not taken into consideration is the power of natural ingredients. Fruits, vegetables and products coming from animals are great sources of anti-oxidants and are rich in substances which can whiten the skin, moisturize it, attenuate the fine lines and wrinkles and give it elasticity.

It should work gradually over a year or so. Also try Vitamin E cream. There is an oil called Bio-Oil, it's sooo good, works absolute wonders & it's not over-greasy (I'm in australia, not sure where you're from but you may be able to order it over the net). Also sometimes tanning helps to cover scars...

Vitamin E cream with aloe works really great on scars. My sister had a 2nd degree burn on her leg and after about 12 months of using the cream the scar was gone. The brand was Aloette - one of those make-up party brands - but it really worked!

It may take months but keep applying it. Eventually the scar will all but disappear.
