I drink like a fish and smoke like a chimney, but that doesn't suddenly make me a bigot. Not according to everyone who's around me then, anyway.

Does anyone really think the alcohol suddenly triggered his hatred? Or has he always thought that way, and being nailed for DUI just got him caught?

I'm totally with you on this one. I get wasted and I don't get hateful ideas in my head. In fact I become more honest and tell people I love them. These are things he already believes and saying alcohol made him say it is a too easy way out.

People are like that they love you one moment for what you do, but as soon as you do something wrong in there eyes no matter what you do to improve yourself they will hate you. Since Mel is in the spotlight attention will be drawn to the fact this man directed the one movie that has changed the faith of so many people. To know the man who follows christ to also drink, its an outrage. Personally I dont care if he drinks but he does he shouldnt be behind the wheel of a car im sure the man has more than enough money to get a damn taxi.

Absolutely not.
I dont buy it for one second.
Alcohol may lower your inhibitions, but it doesn't change the person you actually are, it just makes it easier for the REAL you to come out.

There were stories of his extrem homophobia during the filming of Braveheart. I've seen interviews with Dame Edna (no relation to the posser on Y/A) and he's EXTREMELY uncomfortable.

Not to mention the fact that the fruit never actually falls all that far from the tree. His father has been well known for his anti-seminic rants.
Does this incedent suprise me at all?

No, none whatsoever.

Although alcohol may have enabled Mr. Gibson to publicly state things he might not have, had he been sober, I find it very hard to believe that alcohol in and of itself would cause someone to suddenly utter anti-semetic remarks if they didn't actually harbor those beliefs. I think Mel Gibson has shown us his true colors.

Predjudice is learned at home. Anyone who thinks the Jews killed Jesus is not Christian, because they miss the whole point of His sacrifice was voluntary. The Roman 'plants' in the crowd of Jews that hollared 'crucify Him!', are all part of a plan, and as such they are tools of God.
Alcohol doesn't give you a new personality, it releases your inhibitions so you can do things already in your mind that you feel constrained to do when sober. So, yeah he's busted.

what you say when you're drunk is what you think but would never say. so yes, he does actually believe those things. and now, he's trying to "reach out" to the Jewish community, what a joke.
