If you are having these symptoms from taking this dose of amitriptyline you need to tell your doctor about this and get suggestions from him. I used to work as a Registered Nurse on a psychiatric unit in a hospital and I do not feel qualified to advise you about this without knowing your complete health history. Even then, a good doctor knows so much more than I do.

These people who are answering your question know nothing about your particular medical condition. I'm sure they are well meaning but that is not enough. You need to talk with your doctor.

This also applies to the R.N. that answered before me.

Hey! I was going through the same thing. Ask you doctor about trazodone it is non habit forming and it helps a lot with sleep. Also you can try Benedryl. I hope that this is helpful to you. Good Luck! I hope you get some sleep.

I had insominia for awhile until I started reading up on natural remedies. Soy milk did it for me. A large glass (Silk-vanilla) 1 hr before bedtime and before you realize you've slept through the night. Took a couple of days to get your body used to the nutrients contained in soy, but well worth the wait. Getting good night sleep every night.

P.S. also try a bowl of real ice cream. It works, too.

You need to tell your doctor and have him take you off of it....seriously. Have you tried just plain old Benadryl? Amitrptyline is an tricyclic anti-depressant.
