Go to your local public library, ask them to help you find the microfilm for the newspapers (like the Chicago Tribune) from that time period.

What is it? Something you can find in a newspaper or would you have to talk with someone directly; Depends what you need and where you live; If it's finding a person, you may want to check rates for local detectives...a couple of hundred dollars may save you a lot of time and aggravation...

If u ask me, I know for sure u wouldn't be able to find out about what happened.
If it's not in the newpapers, track it by following the events trail. For example, if it was an accident, look into the police reports. If it was birth certificates, check with the city or state registrar. and so on.

You shouldn't even have to go to the library, most of the papers have been going back and archiving everything on the net. With gas prices as high as they are, I would look on the .net from home!
