Why don't you tell your mechanic about this? I believe Ford/Mercury provides at least a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty on their vehicles. Assuming you are under 36,000 miles, take it to the dealership and have it fixed for free. Most things are covered under your standard warranty except for maintenence items such as tires, brake pads, oil changes, transmission services, etc...

First off most noise fron cars fall into three catagories motor, drive line, and wind. Ask yourself if the speed of the noise changes with how fast you go. It has been my experance that most whoop whoop noise is the sound of the tires. Move both rear the tires up front and see if the noise follows the tires.

Do you feel any vibrations with the noise. You may want to have your tires looked at. As hot as it has been across the country, you may have a tire separating. Another thing to look at is the rear differential. It could be low on fluid, or have another problem with it. I would check the tires first though.
