Honey, I am sad your mom wouldn't help you, I can't imagine why.

I will never forget the first time I used a tampon. I just took the paper off and shoved it in. It was *really* uncomfortable and kept popping out. Finally I told my friend and showed her how it kept popping out. She nearly died laughing - I'd shoved the whole thing in, cardboard applicator and all. No wonder it was hurting!

It's been 20 years since that humiliation and I've never forgotten it. Make sure you get the smallest size, Tampax Slender Regular is a good size, or the Juniors. I personally prefer the cardboard applicators, I've had the plastic ones pinch my labia once in awhile. Do NOT use the OB tampons without the applicator, I don't know how you're supposed to get those in there without getting your finger bloody - ick.

Sit on the toilet, legs spread wide (don't forget to lock the door!) Take one out and practice shooting the tampon up and out of the cardboard or plastic applicator to see how it works. Then open a fresh one and place it in as far as you can get it (usually about half your pointer finger's length). Then shoot the tampon in there. If it feels like it's popping out you probably didn't get it in far enough.

If you are at the end of your cycle, you might find it is hard to pull the tampon out or it's painful and sticks to the vaginal walls because you don't have hardly any blood or moisture in there.
At this point, you may be more comfortable with a thin pad or pantyliner. Good luck

If you've talked with your mom and she won't help you and you've read the instructions and cant' figure it out, maybe you have the wrong type of tampon? You don't say how old you are and there are many different kinds of tampons.

Once you put it in right, it should be comfortable to wear. In the beginning you will be able to tell something is there, but it won't be uncomfortable or hurt.

There is only 2 openings that you could even try to put it in..the vagina or the rectum (wrong one!).

The easiest way is to sit or squat over the toilet and insert the holder (after opening the package) into the vagina. Then push on the applicator/inserter until it is "flush"/even with the top part and then grab the top and pull it out (let go of the string when you pull the applicator out). If you put the applicator in enough, then the tampon will be in good and it should not be uncomfortable. It's when you have it too close to the vaginal opening that it's uncomfortable.

Check the tampon package and see what kind you have. Make sure it's the smaller ones and usually the ones with plastic inserters are easier to use than just fingers or cardboard ones.

If you still can't do it, then maybe you should give it a rest for a bit and try again at some other time or else talk with your mom about it again and see if she has any suggestions for you.

Good luck.

Do you know the consequences of using a tampon? If not then don't use it n further more why would you prefer a tampon over a pad have u been influenced by your friends that has experience with them? I'm 20 n i rotate between tampons and pads because of the risk of tampon usage. Be safe ask your mom of the risk factor because u don't want to get caught up in the danger zone.

it's okay. just relax. if wearing a tampon is not necessary, don't wear it if it causes so much trouble. but if you have like swimming classes, it's necessary and i understand the pressure to use it. again the main idea is to relax. many times before, i've tried putting in a tampon and often got frustrated, making it harder to do. the vagina is the opening lower; below the urethra (where u pee). Relax and do your Best.

Squat over the toilet like your peeing. Take the tampon hold it like a syringe. Insert and push. Pull out applicator. Make sure you push it in enough. It will feel uncomfortable if you don't push it in enough.

okay, you take the tampon, unwrap it, sit down on the toilet, open your legs, put the tampon in your vagina, its the wierd red looking thing above your legs, push in the applicator, and pushe the small tube at the end in while holding onto the bigger one, then pull out the whole applicator, the tampon should be in there
