Trudy would be short for Gertrude, or Gretchen. Yes, I know people with that name. It isn't as popular as it used to be, at least in the US, but it is still a very nice name.

there's a headstart teacher w/ the name Trudy in my town..an older woman about 45 or 50...and she's like the only one i've ever heard of w/ that name...so i guess it's pretty uncommon...and Trudy off of the disney show 'the proud family' lol....
