I live in the Las Vegas, Nevada area and would really like to only buy
minutes and air time when I need them, not when they want me to. I only need the phone for emergency purposes and not for daily use.

T Mobile without a doubt offers the best prepaid plan of all the MAJOR carriers. Most prepaid carriers charge you $1 per day just for turning on the phone and placing a call. That adds up or should I say takes away from your "minutes" you can talk with. Also you'll find that with some carriers you "minutes" will only last for 30 days and then they'll expire. Some carriers don't offer the "rollover", once those minutes are gone - that's it. Now you'll have to buy more minutes within a certain time frame or you'll lose your phone number and then be forced to start all over again. T Mobile offers rollover with their prepaid minutes.
