Currently I keep reading about Zack Wilde. But actually any guitarist who plays metal owes a tremendous debt to Eddie Van Halen. Hes the originator of many of the elements of this style. I think he was the best metal guitar soloist. If not the best, he was certainly the originator.

Rhandy Rhoades,unfortunately he is no longer with us. I also like Steve Stevens though he's not classified metal. Now Steve has got some feeling when he plays.

I cant say who exactly but i can say kirk hammet from metallica, herman li from dragonforce is pretty good too(hes the only good thing about that band) so many more i cant think of right now
