Yes. VCD (VideoCD version 2.0) was never popular in the western countries. Basically the only VCDs in the west (outside of Chinatown enclaves in big cities like New York and San Francisco) were illegal copies or porn movies. On the other hand, VCD is/was a very popular method of movie distribution in Asia - China, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. Sone studios release some of their movies officialy for VCD format in Asia. VCD almost completely replaced the VHS format in asia. You can go on line and find VCDs of asian movies. I don't know whether the successor to VCD, SuperVideoCD is catching on or failing.

what is a VCD? I know what a DVD is and i know what a CD is. I even know what a VHS and batea max are but what is a VCD?
