not how you make ART but what is ART itself. A definition that includes all ART and all forms of ART.

I will give MY definition that I have thought about for 44 years to pare down to the simplest truth of ART after a few days.

Art is.
It can be anything, everything, nothing, or all three at the same time.
It is the expression of human emotion and the want to capture something's essence, whether created from memory or from looking at scenery.
It is in every single thing in this entire universe - the stars, people, cells, trees, animals, etc.
The opinion of what art is can differ from person to person. Therefore...
Art is.
It just is.

The concept of art is so big and so vague, that it's not exactly bound by definition, but you asked, and I tried to give my best description. Hope you understood what I meant.

Oh, man.

I have my M.A in Art History, and I am also a professional artist, and published many times.....and I have no idea how to define art!

Maybe the closest to a definition I ever heard was some graffiti scrawled on the exterior of the Leo Castelli Gallery in NY, that said, "Art'$ What $ell$". I think this was meant to be a slap in the face of the Gallery's restrictive guidelines on works accepted, but it has a lot of truth to it!
