there is a catch-22 in the michigan books. Although the legal age is 18yrs old. You can move out at 17yrs old IF you are finished with highschool. As for the emancipation act, you need to be emancipated if you didn't finish highschool yet. Oddly, the michigan laws aren't all fluid. Some areas use the federal statutes which is 18yrs, and other areas use the state guidelines. As a 17yr old, be smart... either way think about everything you need. You can't do anything without a birth certifcate and diploma. So, it would be wise to get those things from your parents first. I don't condone moving out so soon. But, I don't judge, I just give advise. No matter at what age you move out. You'll have a hard time doing anything. You'll need you original birth records, any IDs you may have. If you move out without parental consent, don't expect them to help you out for anything, but be courtious enough to let them know how you are doing from time to time. I ran away at 16yrs old and my step-mom died while I was away... I never got the chance to tell her I was glad she put up with my crap while I was younger, or that I finally accepted her as a mom. You'll find that most places in michigan won't hire a drop-out, so at least continue school. But for that you need parental signatures and physicals. You won't even be able to go to the hospital due to the fact that you are a minor as a non-graduate until you are 19yrs old in michigan. Those are just some things to think about first. I hope this helped.

Depends on the state! In mine there is no such thing, though we do recognize other states emancipated kids.
Generally when you are emancipated you have to show you have a place to live and can support yourself!
If your parents wanted to be jerks they could stop you, but in reality, most police departments, or Social Services will NOT get involved with a 17 year old! I know for a fact Social Services won't. By the time the case was adjudicated you would be 18, and it is hard to get older kids into group homes because few ever are placed in a foster home. That process could take months! And if they did, when you are 18 they just throw you out on the streets anyway!

Unfortunately it's 18 in michigan I believe if not emacipated.... mitigating circumstances excluded... if you can show just cause or unfit parenting etc.. at home then you may have a shot but again that falls under the scope of being emacipated if you can prove fit to care for oneself if any of the mitigating circumstances apply. Best place to inquire is local law office or child services/social services for more information in the state of michigan.... check link below for more info. When you access the link scroll to the bottom and click on "Family Division" to obtain the information you need.

You have to have your parents permission or be emancipated until you are 18.

The short answer is NO unless your emancipated.
Your parents are responsible legally for you until your 18th birthday.
A court can consider you incorrigable and have you put in
a foster home or juvenile detention center.
Your BF can be arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and if your having sex he can be arrested for statutory rape
and spend many years in prison.

Wrong.....It is 17 in Michigan..if you want the numbers for the laws, I will post them. The parents are responsible until 18, but the child can move out at 17, with-out a diploma.

Go for it, at 17 and he is 18, looks like the two of you will amount to nothing in life.

it depends on the law in your state... it shouldn't be a problem because you're older than 16, so your parents don't have to sign papers saying that it was okay for you to move out... just phone up the courthouse or the police station (non-emergency number) and ask them
